and here's what else i see. with the home run by mitt romney at the republican convention, i see the romney-ryan team going all the way to the white house. with your help, and, folk, we need them and we need them now. we're living through the worst economic recovery since the great depression. over 8% unemployment. for the last 3 1/2 years under barack obama. double digit on employment for young people. halfry can americans, hispanic, president obama promised to fix this economy and he has not done it. he has failed. we can't afford another four years. you agree with me on that? we can't afford more of the same, but we're fortunate

because we've got a candidate who has the experience. he's got the record. he has the character. and he has the policies to turn this thing around and bring back america's promise. that's mitt romney. he's got a terrific spouse in ann romney. didn't she do an amazing job at the convention, folks? it was another home run. and once mitt romney is in the white house, his best partner is going to be ohio zone speaker of the house, john boehner. now, while the democrats have failed, john boehner working with paul ryan passed a responsible budget in the house of representatives. he did.

promises in his campaign. my voice is a little cracked lately because five days at convention, a lot of spea a lot of -- my voice is about gone. but i'm here today because this is a very serious time in our country, a very serious time. elections have consequences and four years ago when the president-elected barack obama, there was a lot of belief that things really would change, that he really would work across the aisle, that he would change. unfortunately, he hasn't kept any of his promises. he's the one said we passed the stimulus bill, unemployment wouldn't exceed 8%. 42 consecutive months of unemployment at 8%. the president said we'll pass the stimulus bill, it will create 3 million new job, 5 million people have lost their

job since. it's time for america to stand up and reclaim our country. mitt romney one of the most sincere, honest, decent human beings to walk on the face of the earth. he has the record of creating jobs from one coast to the other. he has a record of balancing budgets and fixing problems in his own state of massachusetts. he is the person who will keep his promises to the american people. he's the person who will fix our economy. he's the guy who will send barack obama packing his backs back to chicago. ladies and gentlemen, mitt romney.

ready for my -- my convention speech, i read some speeches from some other people who had spoken at conventions. i actually also read the inaugural speech of some of our great presidents and heroes in my life. and one of the speeches i read was the convention speech of barack obama. he was not one of the ones that i wanted to draw from, except i could not resist a couple of things he said. because he made a lot of promises. and i noted that he didn't keep a lot of promises. one of the promises he made was he was going to create more jobs. and today 23 million people are out of work or stopped looking for work or are underemployed. let me tell you, if you have a coach that's zero and 23 million, it's time to get a new coach.

time for america to see a winning season again and we're going to bring it to them. now he's famously said that he was going to slow the rise of the oceans. and going to heal theplanets. and our promise to you is this -- we're going to help the american people and help the families of america. this is a great state. you got a great governor, by the way. john kasich. he's doing a terrific job. and he's showing the president if the president would only look how it is you can bring more jobs back to a state. what he's done is made ohio more business friendly. he's held down taxes. he's balanced budgets. we have a plan -- paul ryan and

i have a plan to get america working again. it's going to create about 12 million new jobs in america and about 460,000 jobs right here in ohio. five things will do. five things we'll get to get the economy growing again. i need josh mandell of the senate to make that happen. rob portman will be there. speaker boehner and all of the good republicans, we need to have them as well. those five things, number one, get north america energy independent, use our oil, coal, gas, renewables. number two -- number two -- make trade work for us. we'll open up new markets where

we can sell goods and services and will crack down china and any other cheaters. number three -- we're going make sure our workers have the skills they need to succeed and that our kids have the skills they need to succeed in the coming century. because right now our schools and far too many places in america aren't doing the job they need to do. and i want to make sure we put our kids and the teachers first and the teachers' union behind. number four -- to get entrepreneurs to nth in our lives and in america and put their life savings to work here unless they know they're not

headed to the place that greece is in or spain or italy or those places that have had such trauma overseas. to make sure that's the case, we're going to have to finally do something that republicans have spoken about for a long time and for a while, we didn't do it. when we had the lead, we let people down. we do not want to let people down this time. i will cut the deficit and get us on track to a balanced budge budget. and number five -- i want to champion small businesses. i want to make it easier for people to grow and build businesses because that's where most of our jobs come from. and so instead of doing what the president says he wants to do, which is raising taxes on our best small businesses, i want to bring him down, and i want regulators to understand their job is to help encourage small

business. and i want to take that big cloud off of small business that kept them from hiring people. i want to get rid of obama care and replace it with something that will hold down the cost of health care. we don't -- [ applause ]

>> we recognize what a great responsibility you've given us, how much you expect from us to be able to get back the white house and get america back on track. we've seen these last four years a lot of disappointment, a lot of families have a hard time. i saw a report just this morning that even as some jobs are being xraeted, as they look at the jobs being created, they note that the jobs we lost were middle income jobs. and the jobs we're getting back are low-wage jobs. people in this country are having hard times. the average income in america, the median income in america, rather, has dropped by $4,000 a family as the price of gasoline sup, food is up, health premiums are up. these are tough times for the american people. and added to all that is the divisiveness and bitterness that we've seen from the president's campaign.

america is the story of the many becoming one and accomplishing extraordinary things because of our unity. i thought today of the great her heroism, patriotism, courage of one of ohio's best, neil armstrong. what a champion. the courage and character of that one man combined with the unity of so many who came together to help achieve a great accomplishment. it's a model for our nation. i will do everything in my power to bring us together. because united, america -- america built the strongest economy in the history of the earth. united we put neil armstrong on the moon. united, we faced down

where our movement for change began. and it will be you, iowa, who chooses the path we take from here. now, last week the other party gave you their pitch at the convention down in florida. don't boo, vote! it was something to behold. despite all of the challenges we face in this new century, what they offered over those three days was more often than not, an agenda better suited for the last century. it was a rerun. we've seen it before. you might as well have watched it on a black and white tv.

if you didn't dvr it, let me recap it for you. everything is bad. it's obama's fault. and governor romney is the only one who knows the secret to creating jobs and growing the economy. that was the pitch. there was a lot of talk about hard truths and bold choices, but nobody ever actually bothered to tell you what they were. when governor romney had his chance to let you in on his secret, he did not offer a single new idea. just the same old policies that's been sticking it to the

middle class for years. they talked a lot about me. they talked a lot about him. but they didn't say much about you. they spent even less time talking about what they plan to do. not just because they know you won't like it, but because you've lived through it and you can't afford to repeat it. it turns out we don't think making the middle class pay for another budget busting tax cut for folks making $3 million or more will translate to jobs and prosperity for everybody else. we don't think families will be better off if we undo financial reform that are there to prevent another financial crisis. or rules that are there to protect our air and our waters.

protection to make sure your health care is there for you when you get sick. we don't think the best way to strengthen medicare is give seniors vouchers and leave them to pay for costs out of their own pockets. iowa, they have tried to sell us these tired trickle-down you're on your own policies before. they did not work. it never worked. they won't create jobs, they will not cut our deficit. they will not strengthen our middle class. they will not move our country forward. and we believe in something better.

we believe to say our economic strength never came from the top down, i comes from the bottom up, it comes from worrs and small business owners and a growing, thriving middle class. that's what we believe. we believe in an america that doesn't let how much money you've got determine whether or not you can afford good health care or get a higher education. we believe in an america that leads not just by the force of our military, but also by the strength of our ideals and the power of our examples. we believe in an america where no matter who you are, no matter what you look like, no matter where you come from, no matter who you love, you can pursue your own happiness and you can make it if you try.

the path that i'm going to present. we can choose whether we give massive new tax cuts to folks who have already made it, or whether we keep the tax cuts for every american who is still trying to make it. i have cut taxes by a total of about $3600 for the typical family. and i'm not running to make sure that taxes aren't raised a dime on your family's first $250,000 of income. that's the path forward. you're going to have to choose it. it will be up to you. you can choose whether we seize new jobs and new industries from countries like china, india, and germany. or whether we fight for those jobs for places like iowa.

and my opponent's experience, he likes to talk about it, has been in investing in companies often called pioneers in the business of outsourcing jobs. when his advice was let detroit go bankrupt, i said a million jobs are at stake, an iconic american industry is at stake. i'm going to bet on american workers and american manufacturers. and today, the american auto industry has come roaring back. that's the choice. unlike my opponent, i want to stop giving tax breaks to ship jobs overseas. i want to start rewarding companies that create jobs right here in irvandale and des moines, right here in iowa, right here in the united states of america. that's what we're fighting for. you can decide.

whether borrow money from your parents an acceptable answer for a young person hoping to go to college and start a business. or you can say, let's make sure america once again leads the world in educating our kids and training our workers. let's help more young people go to college, get ready to learn. let's hire more great teacher, especialry in math and science. let's help more americans go to community colleges to get the skills for the jobs they need right now. governor romney wants to end the college tax credit. we created the savings, families up to $10,000 over four years and tuition. i want to extend it. in america, higher education can be -- can't be a luxury.

it's an economic necessity and something everybody should be able to afford. that's what we're fighting for. >> iowa, you can choose a plan written by the big oil companies. or you can use the strategy for america. at a time when home grown energy is creating new jobs right here in iowa. when farmers are helping to create new biofuels, when factories are turning out new wind turbines. my opponent wants to end tax credit for wind energy producers. he said new sources of energy like these are imaginary. his running mait calls them a fad. nearly 7,000 jobs in the united

states depends on wind energy. they aren't a tabs, they're the future. it's time to stop giving $4 million in taxpayer subsidies each year to oil companies that are making every time you go to the pump. let's give some of the money to home grown energy sources like wind. that's this election, that's what we're fighting for. it's up to you whether we go back to the health care system unless insurance companies decide who to cover and when. or whether we keep moving forward with the new health care laws that's cutting costs and covering more people and saving lives. now's not the time to re-fight the battles in the past four years, now's the time to move forward.

this november, you get to decide about the war in afghanistan. governor romney had nothing to say about afghanistan last week, let alone offer a plan for the 33,000 troops who will have come home from the war by the end of this month. you know, he says ending the war in iraq was tragic. i said we'd end that war and we did. i said we'd take out bin laden, and we did. >> usa! usa! >> today all of our troops are out of iraq. we are bringing them home from afghanistan. and as long as i'm commander in chief, we will serve our

veterans as well as they served us, veterans like lucas who got his education thanks to post 9/11 gi bill because nobody who fights for this country should have to fight for a job or an education or a roof over their heads when they come home. that's what's at stake in this election. onn onner -- on issue after issue, iowa, romney and ryan will take us back. it's a story of americans moving forward. and soon you'll get a chance to choose a path that will actually lead to a better future. but over the next two months, the other side will spend more money than we have ever seen on ads that basically tell you the same thing they told you at the

convention -- the economy is not doing good and it's obama's fault. they know their economic plan is impossible. go figure that raising taxes on middle-class families to pay for new tax cuts for billionaires and millionaires doesn't go over that well. so that's not what they're going to talk about. they're counting on the fact that you get so discouraged by these negative ads that you decide your vote doesn't matter. you'll decide you can't compete with $10 million checks from wealthy donors. i'm counting on something different. i'm counting on you. and i need your help. first and foremost. i need you to go to the register.com to make sure you
